Grupo Yuba

In November of 1989, the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center established a song, dance and percussion workshop focused on two forms of Puerto Rican folkloric music: bomba and plena. The workshop included a series of presentations within the community to promote cultural awareness. The workshop was baptized with the name Grupo Yuba in 1990. The group is named after one of the bomba rhythms and the hiding place for run-away slaves. Yuba promotes Puerto Rican culture and folklore and serves as an educational model for learning about our African roots. Yuba is a leadership project that provides youth and adults with opportunities to develop and explore hidden artistic talents. Yuba actively promotes the value of education and the importance of volunteerism. The members of Yuba have become some of the most incredible performers and leading experts in bomba and plena in the Midwest. Yuba has developed a program that covers the Puerto Rican culture and the various aspects, rhythms and traditions of bomba as it practiced in the different regions of Puerto Rico.

The Paul Green School of Rock

The Paul Green School of Rock is the original performance based interactive music school founded in 1998 in Philadelphia. The goal is to elicit natural talent and to help our students realize their potential as artists. We teach kids aged 8-18 to play on stage in front of a sold-out audience and most importantly to amplify the voice and spirit of a new generation of superior musicians. From the moment a student enrolls they are playing music on professional equipment with other musicians. Students have a 45 minute private lesson and a three hour rehearsal each week. There are workshops, clinics, boot camps, and guest artists that help teach our students how to be well rounded musicians. Before long, our students are playing live, sold-out rock concerts at real rock venues such as The Beat Kitchen, Abbey Pub and Schubas. The Paul Green School of Rock Music uses tributes to pioneer musicians like Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, David Bowie and ACDC to teach a wide variety of rock music. The school not only encourages but enhances the best musical education taught by professional musicians that inspire and value the essence of learning and playing rock and roll.

Mucca

Mucca Pazza
Mucca Pazza. Often mispronounced, seldom mistook. 30 grown-up dorks with too much energy and too little self-restraint, stupefying their audience with music that should never be performed by a marching band. To their credit, this band of misfits only has one march in their repertoire, a bizarre stomp played on the usual marching band instrumentation: snare drums, glockenspiel, sousaphone, speaker-helmet electric guitar, etc. Their other music includes zombie-mambo, snake-charmer-metal, gypsy-reggaeton and classical. Their completely mismatched uniforms and plastic bag pom poms dazzle revelers while their chaotic movements and strange behavior dazzle the police. The hardest smelling band in show business, Mucca Pazza is a sight to be heard.
